Overview & Outcomes
It is with great excitement that I welcome the first group of teachers to our roll out of iPads in the Snoqualmie Valley School District. There is great potential for this new technology to transform teaching and learning, and I ask that you embrace the chance to use this powerful 21st century learning tool. Not only will you engage students like never before, but you will also enhance your own skills as a teacher. Furthermore, you will play a vital role in helping the district to learn more about what needs to be done from an infrastructure and organization standpoint to support mobile devices in our schools. Thank you for you willingness to participate!
Our plan is to phase iPads into the classroom slowly over time. The first set will go to a select group of special education teachers in the Spring of 2011 with the hope that more can be rolled out to a wider group of teachers and students when the new school year starts next Fall. Because a significant investment of resources (both time and money) will be--and already have been--devoted to this project, we have identified some outcomes that will guide our implementation. The intended outcomes for this project are to:
Again, thank you for your willingness to participate in this exciting technology pilot. I also realize that you will no doubt be investing some of your own resources to make this project a success. This type of dedication to your students is something I admire greatly. If there is anything I can do to assist you in this process, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Nancy Meeks,

Because a significant investment of resources (both time and money) will be--and already have been--devoted to this project, we have identified some outcomes that will guide our implementation. The intended outcomes for this project are to:
- Determine how iPads can be used effectively in special education classrooms to support and enhance student learning and achievement.
- Understand how iPads can increase student access to learning opportunities in the general education classroom, the special education classroom, and the community.
- Identify key software applications to be used within our classrooms.
- Discuss how the department will manage the deployment of iPads into classrooms and the organization of the applications.
- Provide avenues for teachers to network regarding the use of technology to support our students.
- Identify training needs.
Again, thank you for your willingness to participate in this exciting technology pilot. I also realize that you will no doubt be investing some of your own resources to make this project a success.
